Crescent & I (con't)

At age 20, I began to notice that the Wolfrider! Story was building up to a greater and greater animosity between the wolfriders and the humans. I smelled the possible introduction of Crescent into this story. It got me thinking that I'd thought more about Crescent than anyone else, so perhaps I might be qualified to write a story about her. Not for the comics, mind you, but for the Blood of Ten Chiefs anthologies. I approached Richard with the tentative idea, and though he told me not to get my hopes up, he was encouraging. I began to write my story. I didn't want to write a grand epic, but something small that gave insight into the daily lives and relationships of the wolfriders. I decided to write a story about fishing. About how Crescent discovers the joy of fishing, but thinks that others will laugh at her for such an un-wolfish thing. I wrote the beginnings of the story, knowing what would be coming.

ElfQuest #23 came and went, and my enthusiasm built. When ElfQuest #25 arrived, I had a bit of a faint-headed, fall-out-of-my-chair (literally), episode. The first picture of Crescent showed her fishing. Just like I had imagined she would in the culmination of my story. Proud, announcing her success to her parents. The reaction of her parents was exactly like I would have written it myself. Plus, the crescent of this story looked much more like my drawings than the drawings of her as a cub.

HMMMMM..!

So that is my story. What does it mean? I can't say, really. There are an awful lot of coincidences. But I like to think that despite what the stories tell, Crescent, "Moonbow", older sister of Dart and child of the Wolfriders, lives on in me.
